I was sitting in KMC (college library, so to speak) when I started watching MKBHD’s commencement speech at his college. As I was listening to it, I started thinking about my own life. I had a lot to reflect on. Being in my final year, I have a big life decision ahead of me.
Hence, I have 3 life lessons that I have learned.
The first lesson is to have gratitude. Simple. When was the last time you were truly grateful about, anything? Even the smallest things. Being a person who has never appreciated anything in life, I often saw the bad over the good. Complaining, cribbing, and arguing. It is painful.
I have come to learn how to be grateful for my life. Now, I look at the good in everything, I am truly grateful for today. This as a person helps me believe in myself and others. This also acts as my motivation to create a positive change in this world. To create an impact that can outlive me.
My second belief is to Be Here Now.
Last year I came across this old book in my KMC (like always). This book is a story of a psychology professor at Harvard, who came to India and started following a sadhu. He wanted to gain wisdom from the Sadhu, who was as silent as a daisy petal floating in the air. Professor followed him day and night, with bare minimum of talking. One day, he decides to talk to the Sadhu, he was tired and curious. So, with great eagerness, he asks, “Where are we headed next?” The Sadhu responds the future is not real. Be Here Now. The professor puzzled, says, “Oh back in America we used to …” The Sadhu responds again, Be Here Now.
What does it mean to Be Here Now !?
Most of our lives we spend thinking too much about the past or the future, in return, we forget to live the life right here, right now. As Master Oogway (Kung Fu Panda) says Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, but Today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.
Hence, being here now means to live life in the moment.
Of course, it doesn’t mean that you don’t plan and live like a vagabond. It means to not be stuck in a time that is not real. Carpe Diem, I try to make the best out of my life right here right now. What is miraculous is all around us.
With this, I come to my last lesson. It is, Delulu is the Solulu, meaning Delusion is the Solution.
People who have ever fallen in love, know how blinding it can be. For me, Delusion means this blinding love. This can be dedicated to anything and not just a person. You will see highly religious people, people who live to travel, and people who live their entire lives for philanthropy, practicing sustainability, or making money. When you talk to them, you will realize that they care about this so much, that no one can make them believe otherwise. You can go prove to a religious person how there is no evidence of god and see for yourself.
I think this delusion is an insanely powerful thing. This is the same belief that made people from Mother Teresa to Hitler. This delusion is what made Arjun only see the eye of the fish, as he launches his arrow and hits the target. This is a drive, the motivation that makes everything else invisible.
When you want or believe something from the bottom of your heart, you give it your all. You live your life around that belief. That drive, the more powerful it is, the more impact it will make.
Hence, I believe in all the dreamers and visionaries out there. I have my complete faith that your delusion will make you pierce through the fish’s eye. Never stop believing. Stay hungry, Stay Foolish :)
In the end, there is a Buddhist poem, I’d like to add:
Listen well Everyone,
Great is the problem of Life and Death
No forever, Gone Gone
Awake Awake each one
Don’t waste your life.
